The appeal this Kombi oozes is out of this world! Seriously well built and finished to an extremely high standard, this is the one to own. Built by the best in the business, Generation Old School Benoni. If you know, you know.
This is without a doubt one of the best Kombis to ever grace our floor with her presence. The colour, the interior, the engine, the detail, this is what makes this bus what it is.
It is clear from the pics, which doesn’t do her justice, that this bus is finished to a next level and everything just works great together. The two tone with olive green exterior, the light tan leather interior, the quality of the drive, it all just adds up.
The paintwork is 10/10. There is nothing to fault. Done professionally and to a high standard, as all Generation Old School builds.
As for the interior, flawless, that is what comes to mind. Carpets to rooflining, all 10/10. The finish again is what sells this Kombi.
All the electricals are fully operational, including the brand new semaphore indicators. This is just a treat to see. Original gauges and cluster are all rebuilt and working.
She has the proper Safari windows upfront which just pops and grabs all the attention when opened up. And yes, this does actually help loads to keep the interior cool when driving.
Mechanically it is not your average bus. There were some subtle changes made to actually turn this into a usable and driveable bus. The engine was changed to a 1600 and the gearbox upgraded, whilst keeping the reduction boxes, to actually have a bus you can cruise 100/120km/h with. This is a massive upgrade as it makes the bus ready for longer trips without having to arrive 2 days late!
She starts on the turn and just wants to be driven. Take her anywhere and be sure she will demand attention. The barn doors open effortlessly and allow for ease of access to passengers.
There are loads more details to the restoration, and the photos does capture lots of it, but she must be seen to be appreciated. Not a cent was spared with the build.
At the annual VW Festival, this bus one “Best Kombi”, as expected. See trophy in pics.
The custom made surfboard was built for this bus, for this roofrack. As said, the details.
