If ever we had a car with proper history and provenance up for sale, this is that car!
Many people in the racing circles would immediately recognise this Porsche from the 80’s and 90’s. This special racecar was raced by Mr Gary Dunkerley from 1986 to 1994 and during this period, this was the only Porsche represented in the Wesbank Modified Saloon Championship.
The car originally started life as a 1972 911T. The wheel arches were widened to 930 spec and she ran a 3.0L normally aspirated engine. The car was built by the exceptional Pete Frost and remained in his car throughout the car’s life in the Wesbank Championship.
Originally silver in colour the car was entered as B16 in class B in 1987 and remained in this class until the series finished in 1994. Soon after that the colours were changed to display the SABAT Battery livery and remained as such until the series ended.
The rear wing was changed at some point and also remains like this today!
For the 1991 season the Porsche underwent some changes on recommendation of Ashley Owen Racing. The rear suspension setup was changed and bodywork changed to a “Kremer” styled look. This was supposedly done for better aerodynamics. According to Gary Dunkerley this made no real difference and the changes were reversed at the end of the series in 1994.
After the vehicle changed hands in 1994, Franz Pretorius became the new owner and successfully raced the car in the Altech Challenge. When Franz retired, the SABAT livery was put back. This was a good day.
In August 2022 Gary was reunited with his old faithful at the “Ford and Friends” gathering. He then proceeded to sign this very special car and some pictures were taken to lock this into history.
Over the past year the following work was commissioned:
• Crank replaced
• Pistons and Cylinder set
• New Conrods
• New Oil Pump
• New Coils
• Distributor and Alternator overhaul
• brake system overhauled
• new clutch
• new pedal box
• fuel system overhauled
• new shocks
• new seats and harnesses
• BBS Rims refurbished
• new Tyres
Loads more work was carried out to get the car to what it is today!
She is race ready and awaiting its new owner. Who knows, maybe we see her out on the track soon!
A rare opportunity to own a piece of South African racing history!
Located in Shere, Pretoria East for viewings per appointment only.
